Meditating The Word
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Joshua 1:8 Meditate means to muse, talk about, consider, meditate, sigh, sing. Our words have power (the power of life and death are in the tongue), but God‘s Word isn‘t just powerful, it‘s anointed. What if instead of speaking what we think about ourselves, we spoke God‘s Word over ourselves instead as a form of meditation? What if we personalized and prayed scripture as a form of daily meditation? Well, as God told Joshua, I believe that THEN you will make your way prosperous and THEN you shall have good success.

Day 327: Acts 15-16
Nov 23, 2023
Nov 23, 2023
13 min
Today on Meditating the Word: The Council at Jerusalem, the Council's Letter to Gentile Believers, Disagreement Between Paul and Barnabas, Timothy Joins Paul and Silas, Paul's Vision of the Man of Macedonia, Lydia's Conversion in Philippi, Paul and Silas in Prison.
This is Day 327. We are reading Acts 15-16
----
Father God, such a lesson from Paul and Silas. They certainly had much to complain about. Having been beaten and imprisoned, they could have talked about failure and defeat. They could have had a major pity party. Instead, they chose to worship You and to give You praise. And we see the power of praise. The chains were broken, and the prison doors open. Help us to remember, Father, that praise is a powerful weapon You have given us. It frees us from bondage and makes the enemy flee from us. We give You praise on the mountain, and praise in the valley. We give You praise in the light and praise in the darkness. And in praising, we stand in the victory that You have already won. Amen

Today on Meditating the Word: Trials and Temptations, Listening and Doing,Favoritism Forbidden, Faith and Deeds, Taming the Tongue, Two Kinds of Wisdom, Submit Yourselves to God, Boasting About Tomorrow, Warning to Rich Oppressors, Patience in Suffering, The Prayer of Faith
This is Day 326. We are reading James 1-5
----
Father God, how I love the Book of James. His letter is often misunderstood and, in fact, Martin Luther called it a "gospel of straw". Help us, Father, to not go into the ditch on either side of the issue of faith and works. Yes, we are saved by faith through grace, and not by anything that we do. And, if we are truly living by faith, there should be a difference between us and nonbelievers. Jesus said we would know people by their fruits. So, let our faith be made manifest in the works that we do, always giving You the glory. Help us to bridle our tongues, and to endure our trials with patient and joyous expectancy. And help us to learn to pray with the insistence and earnestness of Elijah, giving You entrance to work wonders in the earth. Amen

Today on Meditating the Word: Barnabas and Paul Sent Off, On Cyprus, In Pisidian Antioch, In Iconium, In Lystra and Derbe, The Return to Antioch in Syria.
This is Day 325. We are reading Acts of the Apostles 13-14
----
Father God, let Your Spirit fall fresh upon us. When we compare our lives with those of the Apostles and the early church, it is apparent that we have lost our fire -- our true love. Why have become so busy with our daily lives, that we don't devote ourselves to spreading the good news. These brave men and women faced criticism and death to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. Yet, we are too complacent or afraid or "shy" to even tell our co-workers or family member who aren't saved. We repent of being lukewarm Christians, Father. Give us the boldness of Holy Spirit to tell others about You. Show us who to speak to, and give us the words to say... words that bring life and salvation. Amen

Today on Meditating the Word: Peter Explains His Actions, The Church in Antioch, Peter's Miraculous Escape From Prison, Herod's Death.
This is Day 324. We are reading Acts of the Apostles 11-12
----
Father God, in studying the lives of the Apostles and the early church, I think we do not spend enough time in prayer and communion with You. You are a mighty and wonder-working God. And You are the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. You never change. These miracles that You performed then, You can still perform now. Your arm has not been shortened. Remind us, Father, that prayer shouldn't be a LAST resort, but should be our first response to any and every circumstance. Just as the early church prayed without ceasing, help us also, Father, to do the same. To speak with You throughout the day. And to listen. Amen

Today on Meditating the Word: Saul's Conversion, Saul in Damascus and Jerusalem, Aeneas and Dorcas, Cornelius Calls For Peter, Peter's Vision, Peter at Cornelius's House
This is Day 323. We are reading Acts of the Apostles 9-10
----
Father God, we are so grateful for Cornelius and his faithfulness, and for Peter, who went against all of the teachings of his upbringing to witness to Cornelius and his household. This opened the doors for ALL of us to be saved and receive Holy Spirit. Thank You that You are no respector of persons. Thank You for Paul's conversion and obedience, and for the obedience of Ananias. We can learn so much from these accounts Father, about fasting, about praying, and most importantly, about obeying you immediately, even when what You ask of us may not make sense. Help up to be attentive and obedient to Your Word, Father. Amen

Day 322: Acts 7-8
Nov 18, 2023
Nov 18, 2023
18 min
Today on Meditating the Word: Stephen's Speech to the Sanhedrin, The Stoning of Stephen, The Church Persecuted and Scattered, Philip in Samaria, Simon the Sorcerer, Philip and the Ethiopian.
This is Day 322. We are reading Acts of the Apostles 7-8
----
Father God, when we read the account of Stephen, we are amazed at his boldness in the face of death. But even more so at his humility and is ability to forgive. He echoed the words of Jesus, "Father, forgive them, for they don't know what they are doing." And Saul, who would become one of Your most fervent apostles, was standing there, receiving that forgiveness. In the account of Simon the Sorcerer, we are reminded that we cannot earn or buy any of the gifts You freely give us. Holy Spirit is available to all who ask. So we ask, Father, for a refreshing if that's what is needed, or for an infilling if we haven't yet received. And we know that when we ask, we receive. Thank You, Father. Amen

This is Day 321. We are reading Acts of the Apostles 4-6
----
Father God, just as Jesus told his disciples, we see that Holy Spirit gave them the words to say. They didn't have to rehearse. They didn't have to prepare. When they were called before the council, all they had to do was speak the words Holy Spirit gave them. They didn't ask that their enemies be destroyed, or that they not be persecuted, but rather, they asked to speak Your Word with ALL boldness. Father, give us that same boldness to speak Your Truth no matter what the consequences, and to remember to always speak it in love. Amen

This is Day 319. We are reading Luke 24 and John 20-21
----
Father God, How amazing it would have been to have been on the road to Emmaus and heard Jesus explain all of the prophecies in scripture that foretold his coming, his life, his ministry, his death and his resurrection. We look for them. Some are easy to see, yet, we know that Your Word has many layers and many depths. So, we continue to listen and read and study, and ask that You reveal to us ever deeper meanings as we continue to follow Jesus. Amen

Father God, and this is our victory! Jesus died on the cross, bearing our sin, guilt and shame, the full curse laid upon him, with all it's diseases and poverty and spiritual death, but that wasn't the end of the story. He rose from the grave victorious, and in him, we have victory over the enemy. Thank You for Your faithfulness, for the faithfulness of Jesus. Thank You that we have been given the authority to speak in Jesus' name, to be filled with Holy Spirit, to preach the good news, to cast out demons, and to lay hands on the sick. We are the hands and feet of Jesus in the earth. Amen

Meditating The Word
What if instead of speaking what we think about ourselves, we spoke God‘s Word over ourselves? What if we personalized and prayed scripture as a form of daily meditation?
That's the goal of this podcast. No filler, no ads... just God's Word personalized in the form of a daily confession.
