Meditating The Word

Today on Meditating the Word, the Israelites take vengeance on the Midianites, the plunder is divided; land is allotted to the tribes of Gad and Reuben, and the half-tribe of Manassah on the east side of the Jordan.

Father God, thank you for your Word, and thank you for the lessons we can take from it. You have called us to be separate, Father, set apart for you. We saw it with the children of Israel. And again in the New Testament, we are warned to not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. Help us to know when we are crossing the line, Father, from ministering to non-believers to becoming overly familiar and placing ourselves at risk from evil influences. Help us to keep our hearts pure, Father, dedicated wholly to you, and following you completely. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray.   Amen.

Father God, Even though we are no longer bound by the laws of the Old Testament which were fulfilled by Jesus, we recognize the lessons that we can apply to ourselves yet today. You took oaths and vows very seriously, because words are important. Help us to recognize the power of our words, Father, and to not speak rashly or carelessly. Help us to say what we mean and to mean what we say. We were created in your likeness and image, and our words have power. Help us to use our words properly to exercise our dominion over our lives and circumstances, and to live in your promises. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Father God, You are just and your Word never fails. Just as you said, all those who refused to enter into the promised land, died in the wilderness. And yet, even in a patriarchal society, we see you show mercy to the daughters of Zelophehad, allowing them to claim their father's inheritance in his place. And then we see you honor Joshua, the one who had a different spirit, not a spirit of rebellion, but one of faith and trust in you and your promise. You exalted him above all of Israel and made him their leader in Moses' place. Father, may we have the boldness of Zelophehad's daughters and claim the inheritance you provided for us, and the spirit of Joshua believing in your Word no matter what our circumstances look like. In the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Father God, Your word is forever settled in heaven. You don't take away your blessing, and no one else can take it away. Who you bless, remains blessed. We can accept the blessing or reject it. But it cannot be taken from us. Not by any man, and not by the enemy. Thank you, Father, for your faithfulness. Thank you for your Word that stands forever. Thank you for the blessing that we have received through the blood covenant, and through Jesus. In his mighty name we pray.  Amen.

Father God, How I love your Word! Again, we see Jesus in the account of the serpent on the pole -- a symbol of Jesus on the cross. And we are reminded that as long as we keep our eyes on him, we will be saved. But when we look at our circumstances, that's when we run into trouble. And the account of Balaam, and how you used a donkey... how can I ever doubt, Father, that you can use me. If you can give a donkey words to speak, surely I can trust Holy Spirit to speak through me. Help me to keep my eyes on Jesus and speak only your Words, Father. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.----

Father God, Thank you for showing us Jesus throughout the Old Testament. In the Rock at Meribah, we see him. Moses had already struck a rock that brought forth water. Your instructions were clear -- he was to speak to the Rock this time. Just as Jesus was struck once for all time and now we are to speak the word only. Father, your Word is truth and your promises are sure. Remind us when we forget, Father, that we don't have to struggle and labor to receive your promises, we only need to speak your Word. It is forever settled in heaven. Thank you, Father. In the name of Jesus, the name above all names we pray. Amen.

Father God, So often we try to blame others, or even you, for what is wrong with our lives instead of taking responsibility for our own actions and mistakes. Help us, Father, to recognize that our actions have consequences and we are often our worst enemies. Still, you are full of love and compassion for us. Help us to do your will Father. And as Aaron, give us the strength to stand between the living and the dead, and intercede for those who do not know you, Father. Give us the courage to stand in the gap for you. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

You are the Lord our God, from everlasting to everlasting. You satisfy us in the morning with your loving kindness. Your favor is upon us. You establish the works of our hands. Thank you, Father. Father God, There are so many lessons for us in your Word. Jealousy is such an ugly thing. Help us to keep our hearts soft and free from jealousy, Father. For we each have our own unique part to play in your plan. We are each called according to YOUR purpose, not ours. And help us to trust you, Father. Your Word is truth. Anything to the contrary is an evil report. You have given us great and precious promises, Father. Help us to focus on your Word, and not our circumstances. Help us to see ourselves as YOU see us, not as insignificant grasshoppers. You are good, Father. And we give you all of our praise. In Jesus' name.  Amen
