Day 294: Matthew 17 and Mark 9
Saturday Oct 21, 2023
Saturday Oct 21, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: the Transfiguration, Jesus Heals a Demon-Possessed Boy, Jesus Predicts His Death, the Temple Tax.
This is Day 294. We are reading Matthew 17 and Mark 9
----
Father God, like the father with the epileptic son, we believe, but help us with our unbelief. Help us with the doubts that come... often when patience is required, but we are impatient for a solution. Help us to develop faith and patience through prayer and fasting. Jesus indicated that some unbelief can only be cast out through prayer and fasting. So, as the Apostle Paul said, we buffet our bodies, and bring them under subjection to our spirit man. Jesus said that faith like a mustard seed can move mountains, and that all things are possible to him who believes. So we believe, Father. We believe in Your Word. We believe in Your promises. And in faith and patience, we wait expectantly. Amen

Day 293: Matthew 16 and Mark 8
Friday Oct 20, 2023
Friday Oct 20, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: Demand for a Sign, the Yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees, Peter Declares that Jesus is the Messiah, Jesus Predicts His Death, Jesus Feeds the Four Thousand, Jesus Heals a Blind Man, and the Way of the Cross.
This is Day 293. We are reading Matthew 16 and Mark 8
----
Father God, we choose to follow Jesus, wherever he leads. Even when it isn't the popular thing to do, we will take up our cross and follow him. Even when we are ridiculed for our faith, we will not deny him, but will proclaim the Good News. We are not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of salvation. There is no real profit to be had in earthly things that perish. So we die to ourselves, and live life eternal in Christ Jesus. Amen

Day 292: Matthew 15 and Mark 7
Thursday Oct 19, 2023
Thursday Oct 19, 2023
----
Father God, Help us to guard our hearts. We worry so much about what we put into our mouths... what foods are healthy, what foods we should avoid, how many calories we should consume. But we don't pay attention to what we are storing in our hearts. And it is out of the abundance of our hearts that we speak, and it is our words that determine the course of our lives. Set a guard on our hearts and on our mouths, Father. As we listen to and read Your Word, let it be planted deep within our hearts. When we speak, let us say only what lines up with Your Word. Amen

Day 291: John 6
Wednesday Oct 18, 2023
Wednesday Oct 18, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand, Jesus Walks on Water, the Bread of Life, Many Disciples Leave Jesus.
This is Day 291. We are reading John 6
----
Father God, thank You for Jesus, the Word of God made flesh. How difficult it must have been for those who walked with him to understand his teachings. Even now, with the benefit we have of being able to read all the scriptures, not just the Old Testament, but also the gospels that tell of his birth, his life, his ministry, his death and his resurrection... we still understand only in part. So Father, we pray for revelation knowledge. Give us a new and deeper understanding of Your Word which is spirit and life eternal and show us how to walk in it. Amen

Day 290: Matthew 14, Mark 6 and Luke 9
Tuesday Oct 17, 2023
Tuesday Oct 17, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: John the Baptizer Beheaded, Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand, Jesus Walks on the Water, Jesus Sends out the Twelve, Jesus Predicts His Death, the Transfiguration.
This is Day 290. We are reading Matthew 14, Mark 6 and Luke 9
----
Father God, the compassion of Jesus is hard for us to comprehend. When his cousin, John the Baptizer was killed, he longed to go off by himself to speak with You. I think we sometimes forget that he walked this earth as a human, with the same emotions we have. His sorrow must have been great. Yet, when the multitudes followed him, we are told he had compassion on them. He taught them, and healed the sick among them until it was late. Then, when his disciples would have turned the people away, Jesus insisted they be fed. Again we see that You are able to use what we have. You are the God of multiplication! With only 5 loaves and 2 fish, the multitude of 5,000 men plus women and children were fed -- with 12 baskets full of leftovers!! Help us to have the compassion of Jesus and to trust that You are able to make whatever we have enough. Amen

Day 289: Matthew 10
Monday Oct 16, 2023
Monday Oct 16, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: Jesus sends out the Twelve
This is Day 289. Today we are reading Matthew 10
----
Father God, freely we have received Your Word, Your salvation, Your righteousness. And we freely offer others the same invitation that we received. Freely You have given us the authority to speak in the name of Jesus, and freely we do so bringing light and peace to others through Your Word. We don't care what others think or say or do to us, Father, but we proclaim Your truth loudly from the rooftops! Thank You, Father, for giving us what we don't deserve and could never earn. Amen

Day 288: Mark 4-5
Sunday Oct 15, 2023
Sunday Oct 15, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: Parable of the Sower, Lamp on a Stand, Jesus Calms the Storm, Demon-Possessed Man Restored, Sick Woman Healed and Dead Girl Raised
This is Day 288. Today we are reading Mark 4-5
----
Father God, what stands out from the gospel of Mark is the word immediately! immediately Satan comes for the word, immediately they received the word with joy, immediately they stumble, immediately the farmer puts in the sickle to harvest, immediately the flow of blood was dried up, immediately Jesus knew power had gone out from him, immediately Jesus told Jairus not to be in fear, but to believe, and immediately the dead girl rose. We get a sense of urgency from Mark, of not delaying. You aren't making a decision to heal or to not heal, to prosper or to not prosper. You created the law of seed time and harvest. If we sow Your Word into our hearts, it will produce. We don't need to know how. Your seed is sure. If it is sown into good ground, it will produce. So we receive Your good seed immediately and with joy, and plant it in the good soil of our hearts, and we thank You in advance for an abundant harvest Amen

Day 287: Matthew 13 and Luke 8
Saturday Oct 14, 2023
Saturday Oct 14, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: the Parables of the Sower, the Wheat and the Tares, the Mustard Seed and the Yeast, the Hidden Treasure and the Pearl, and the Net, a Prophet Without Honor; a Lamp on a Stand, Jesus' Mother and Brothers, Jesus Calms the Storm, Jesus Restores a Demon Possessed Man, the Woman with the Issue of Blood, and Jairus' Daughter Raised from the Dead.
This is Day 287. Today we are reading Matthew 13 and Luke 8----
Father God, we receive Your Word into our hearts -- hearts that have been plowed and prepared; good soil. We seek to understand Your Word, and guard it within our hearts so that it will grow and flourish. We nurture it and protect it, not allowing our minds to dwell on anything that disagrees with what Your Word says. We hear Your Word, and faith comes. And it is through faith that we receive the promises and everything that you have provided for us. When something comes against us, we don't allow fear to enter. We just rest on Your Word, knowing that if You spoke it, it is true. Amen

Day 286: Luke 11
Friday Oct 13, 2023
Friday Oct 13, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: Jesus Teaches on Prayer, the Sign of Jonah, the Lamp of the Body, Woes on the Pharisees and Experts in the Law.
This is Day 286. Today we are reading Luke 11----
Father God, so many lessons from this passage from Luke... but two really stand out to me: persistence and the state of our heart. It isn't just to those who ask that it is given, or to those who knock that it is opened, or to those who seek that find... but to those who are persistent. So often, Father, we give up too soon. We make a half-hearted attempt instead of giving ourselves fully to the pursuit of answers and knowledge. Let us pursue You with the same determination with which You have pursued us. Help us to dedicate ourselves wholeheartedly, Father. Not just in our outward actions. We judge by what we see, but You judge by the unseen, by what is in our hearts, our souls and our minds. Help us to renew our minds with Your Word and transform our lives into something beautiful on the inside, not just what others can see. Amen

Thursday Oct 12, 2023
Thursday Oct 12, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: Jesus and John the Baptist, Woe on Unrepentant Towns, the Father Revealed in the Son
This is Day 285. Today we are reading Matthew 11----
Father God, we come to You when we are weary. We come to You when we are burdened by the cares of this world. And especially today, Father, there are many burdens and cares and strife and wars going on in the world. Surely, we must be in the end times, because we see celebrating in the streets over war and murder and destruction. But You have promised rest. So we throw our burdens at Your feet. We cast them down and we leave them there, taking up Your yoke, which is easy and light to bear. In You we find rest for our souls. Help us to remain in that rest, Father, no matter what is happening in the world around us. Amen
