Day 304: Matthew 19 and Mark 10
Tuesday Oct 31, 2023
Tuesday Oct 31, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: Questions on Divorce, Jesus and the Little Children, the Rich and the Kingdom of God, the Request of James and John, Blind Brtimaeus Receives His Sight.
This is Day 304. We are reading Matthew 19 and Mark 10
----
Father God, thank You for the accounts of different disciples that shed more light and depth on the teachings of Jesus. From Mark, we understand that riches themselves aren't the problem, but trusting in them. This is sometimes a difficult lesson for us. In the world system, money is important, and it's easy for us to trust in our jobs, and in our bank accounts and investments instead of trusting in You. Help us to always remember that You and You alone are our Source, You are our Provider. Help us to have the faith and trust of little children trusting in the protection and provision of a loving Father. Amen

Monday Oct 30, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: Parable of the Persistent Woman, Prayers of the Tax Collector and the Pharisee, Jesus and the Little Children, the Rich and the Kingdom of God, a Blind Beggar Receives His Sight.
This is Day 303. We are reading Luke 18
----
Father God, we pray without ceasing. We know that whatever You have promised in Your Word is sure, and we will not give up. So we ask, not to convince You, Father, but to remind ourselves of Your faithfulness and to put ourselves into a position to receive. We humble ourselves before You, Father, knowing that there is nothing we can do to deserve anything from You. Yet, You have given us everything. So we lay it all at Your feet, Father. We make our requests known, knowing that what seems impossible to us, is possible with You. Amen

Sunday Oct 29, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: The Death of Lazarus, Jesus Comforts Martha and Mary, Jesus Raises Lazarus from the Dead, the Plot to Kill Jesus
This is Day 302. We are reading John 11
----
Father God, thank You for the story of Lazarus with it's rich symbolism. Thank You that You still roll away the stones that would keep us trapped, and You still raise us up into new life today. Give us the faith to believe even when it seems like it's too late. Even when things seem hopeless and our dreams seem to be lifeless, You can breathe new life into them. Thank You for the sacrifice of Jesus... the one who died not just to save the nation of Israelites, but all those who believe in him. Amen

Saturday Oct 28, 2023
Saturday Oct 28, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: The Parable of the Shrewd Manager, the Rich Man and Lazarus, the Ten Lepers
This is Day 301. We are reading Luke 16-17
----
Father God, we put so much value on money and the things of this world, and yet, most of us are foolish with our money. Rather than being wise stewards, the average household is thousands of dollars in debt from buying things we don't need and can't afford. But Your Word makes it plain... money is unrighteous mammon, and if we can't be faithful with it, we can't expect true riches. Help us to be faithful stewards of what You have given us. You have blessed us not to hoard it for ourselves, but to bless others. We give generously of our substance, of our gifts and talents, of forgiveness... everything You have give us in abundance, we share with others. And we give you all the praise. Amen

Today on Meditating the Word: Jesus at a Pharisee's House, Parable of the Great Banquet, Cost of Being a Disciple, Parable of the Lost Sheep, Parable of the Lost Coin, Parable of the Prodigal Son
This is Day 300. We are reading Luke 14-15
----
Father God, we look at outward appearance... at what people do and say, we see their highlight reels... but You look at the heart. It isn't the act itself that pleases You as much as the motive behind the act. Help us, Father, to not get so caught up in our duties and responsibilities that we don't make time for You in our lives. Each and every one of us was at one time the lost sheep, the lost coin, the prodigal son. Thank You for never givin up on us. Once we turned to You, You came running. We were lost, but now we are found. We were dead, but You brought us back to life. Amen

Father God, remind us, when we get caught up in the cares and anxieties of daily life, that we are more valuable to You than the sparrows. Remind us that every hair on our head is numbered. Over and over again, You have shown that You are our Provider -- and You provide abundantly for all of our needs. As David said, I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging for bread. Thank You for providing for us out of the riches of Your glory in Christ Jesus. Amen

Day 298: Luke 10
Wednesday Oct 25, 2023
Wednesday Oct 25, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: Jesus Sends Out the 72, the Parable of the Good Samaritan, Martha and Mary.
This is Day 298. We are reading Luke 10
----
Father God, thank You for the authority You have given us to do the works of Jesus in the earth. And don't let us forget that sometimes those works are seemingly simple things... like showing kindness and mercy -- even to the unlovable, even to those who we don't think deserve it. We didn't deserve Your mercy, yet, You poured it out on us abundantly and our names are written in heaven. And help us to not get caught up in the day-to-day distractions, but to always make time to sit at Your feet and learn more from Your Word. Thank You for this time together, Father. Bless everyone who is listening and give them Your peace. Amen

Father God, thank You for Jesus, our Good Shepherd. We read Your Word and listen to his voice. We know You through him. And we follow him wherever he leads us. This is Day 296. We are reading John 7-8
----
Father God, thank You for allowing us to see You through the life of Jesus. Whenever we want to know Your character, all we have to do is look at his life. If we want to know Your will, all we have to do is read Your Word. Help us to be more like Jesus each day, doing only what we see him doing and saying only what we hear him saying. Not a watered down version of Jesus, but one full of passion and fire and zeal for You. Amen

Day 295: Matthew 18
Sunday Oct 22, 2023
Sunday Oct 22, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: The Greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven, the One Lost Sheep, Dealing With Sin in the Church, the Parable of the Unmerciful Servant.
This is Day 295. We are reading Matthew 18
----
Father God, help us to have the faith, love and trust of a little child. And rather than comparing ourselves with others to see how we measure up, let us instead seek to serve as Jesus served, not seeking honor or fame or praise, but seeking only to serve in humility and love. Father, You have forgiven us so much! We fall short every day, and You have already forgiven us not only of our past sins, but of our present and future sins as well. Help us, Father, to walk in that same spirit of forgiveness toward our fellow man, not holding grudges, not bringing up past failures, but freely forgiving, because we have been freely and completely forgiven. Amen
