Day 335: 1st Corinthians 9-11
Friday Dec 01, 2023
Friday Dec 01, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: Paul's Rights as an Apostle, Use of Freedom, Need for Discipline, Warnings from Israel's History, Idol Feasts and the Lord's Supper, Believer's Freedom, Covering the Head in Worship, Abuse of the Lord's Supper.
This is Day 335. We are reading 1st Corinthians 9-11
----
Father God, some of the Apostle Paul's passages are difficult for today's women to accept. On the one hand, it's obvious that woman was created for man (as a helper, and so he wouldn't be alone), how we despise submission. And we should be careful who we submit ourselves to. We aren't asked to submit ourselves to an abusive relationship. But what beauty there is when a woman trusts her husband enough to submit, because he loves her as Christ loves the church, who loved us enough to lay down his life us. We submit ourselves to You, Father. We bring our minds and our bodies under subjection, offering ourselves to You a living sacrifice. Amen

Day 333: 1st Corinthians 1-4
Wednesday Nov 29, 2023
Wednesday Nov 29, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: Division in the Church, Christ Crucified is God's Power and Wisdom, God's Wisdom Revealed by the Spirit, Church and Leaders, True Apostleship.
This is Day 333. We are reading 1st Corinthians 1-4
----
Father God, Just as there were factions in Corinth, we see the same divisions in the church today. Christians saying their denomination is right and others are wrong... Even thinking those in their church will be the only ones saved, while those in other denominations will be lost. There is only one name by which we are saved, and that is Jesus. Keep our hearts from being foolish, Father. Let us rely on Christ alone for our salvation. We will gladly be fools for Christ's sake. You use the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; the weak things to shame the strong; and the things that don’t exist, to bring to nothing the things that do exist. All the glory and the honor belongs to You. Amen

Day 332: Acts 18-19
Tuesday Nov 28, 2023
Tuesday Nov 28, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: Paul in Corinth, Priscilla, Aquila and Apollos, Paul in Ephesus, the Riot in Ephesus.
This is Day 332. We are reading Acts 18-19
----
Father God, thank You for Your anointing. Thank You for giving us the authority to use the name of Jesus. That same anointing, that same authority that was on Paul is available to us today. Jesus told us to go into all the world and preach the good news, and that He would give the signs through us. We were told to lay hands on the sick and they will recover. We were told to cast out demons. Give us the boldness to act in Jesus' name, knowing that the signs following are up to him. Our part is simply to be his hands and feet in the earth. Amen

Father God, Thank You for Your Word. Thank You for the Apostle Paul and his letters to the early church. Through them, we receive instruction in how to live a Christ-centered life. As he exhorted the Thessalonians, Father, let us also abound more and more in love toward others. Thank You for Your boundless love and grace. Father, we don't look for a handout, but each of us works in quietness and we eat our own bread. Thank You for all of the opportunities we have to work, the avenues through which You supply us with all of our physical needs. And thank You for the peace of Jesus, the Prince of Peace; a peace that surpasses all understanding, a peace that we have at all times and in all ways. Amen

Sunday Nov 26, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: Paul and Silas in Thessalonica, Berea, and Athens, The UnKnown God.
This is Day 330. We are reading Acts 17
----
Father God, scripture plainly states that Your creation testifies of You and that all people have been given the opportunity to know that there is one true God, and to believe. You are that God. You are not an unknown God, but You are our Abba Father, known to us, and we are known and loved by You. May we also testify to You throughout our lives, our words and our actions, Father. Amen

Day 329: Galatians 4-6
Saturday Nov 25, 2023
Saturday Nov 25, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: Paul's Concern for the Galatians, Hagar and Sarah, Freedom in Christ, Life by the Spirit, Doing Good to All, Not Circumcision but New Creation
This is Day 329. We are reading Galatians 4-6
----
Father God, as the Apostle Paul reminds us in his letter to the Galatians, we are not under the law but under grace. Thank You, Father, for Your mercy. We couldn't possibly keep the law. That has been shown throughout the generations. Our spirit may be willing, but our human flesh is weak. Thank You, Father, for making a way for us through Jesus Christ to be adopted into Your family as Your children -- full heirs of the promise made to Abraham. We aren't worthy by anything we have done or will do, but only through the blood of Jesus. Amen

Day 328: Galatians 1-3
Friday Nov 24, 2023
Friday Nov 24, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: No Other Gospel, Paul Called by God, Paul Accepted by the Apostles, Paul Opposes Cephas, Faith or Works of the Law, The Law and the Promise, Children of God.
This is Day 328. We are reading Galatians 1-3
----
Father God, thank You for the blessing of the promise. We understand the law was necessary. It showed us that we were incapable of being righteous on our own. Man needed a Savior. Under the Old Covenant, there were many sacrifices. But under the New Covenant, there was one sacrifice -- Jesus Christ -- who died once for all to cleanse us from sin and redeem us from the curse. Thank You that we are saved by grace through faith and not by our works, which can never match up. Thank You for a salvation that we can't earn and didn't deserve, but You loved us enough to give it to us freely. Amen

Day 327: Acts 15-16
Thursday Nov 23, 2023
Thursday Nov 23, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: The Council at Jerusalem, the Council's Letter to Gentile Believers, Disagreement Between Paul and Barnabas, Timothy Joins Paul and Silas, Paul's Vision of the Man of Macedonia, Lydia's Conversion in Philippi, Paul and Silas in Prison.
This is Day 327. We are reading Acts 15-16
----
Father God, such a lesson from Paul and Silas. They certainly had much to complain about. Having been beaten and imprisoned, they could have talked about failure and defeat. They could have had a major pity party. Instead, they chose to worship You and to give You praise. And we see the power of praise. The chains were broken, and the prison doors open. Help us to remember, Father, that praise is a powerful weapon You have given us. It frees us from bondage and makes the enemy flee from us. We give You praise on the mountain, and praise in the valley. We give You praise in the light and praise in the darkness. And in praising, we stand in the victory that You have already won. Amen

Day 326: James 1-5
Wednesday Nov 22, 2023
Wednesday Nov 22, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: Trials and Temptations, Listening and Doing,Favoritism Forbidden, Faith and Deeds, Taming the Tongue, Two Kinds of Wisdom, Submit Yourselves to God, Boasting About Tomorrow, Warning to Rich Oppressors, Patience in Suffering, The Prayer of Faith
This is Day 326. We are reading James 1-5
----
Father God, how I love the Book of James. His letter is often misunderstood and, in fact, Martin Luther called it a "gospel of straw". Help us, Father, to not go into the ditch on either side of the issue of faith and works. Yes, we are saved by faith through grace, and not by anything that we do. And, if we are truly living by faith, there should be a difference between us and nonbelievers. Jesus said we would know people by their fruits. So, let our faith be made manifest in the works that we do, always giving You the glory. Help us to bridle our tongues, and to endure our trials with patient and joyous expectancy. And help us to learn to pray with the insistence and earnestness of Elijah, giving You entrance to work wonders in the earth. Amen

Tuesday Nov 21, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: Barnabas and Paul Sent Off, On Cyprus, In Pisidian Antioch, In Iconium, In Lystra and Derbe, The Return to Antioch in Syria.
This is Day 325. We are reading Acts of the Apostles 13-14
----
Father God, let Your Spirit fall fresh upon us. When we compare our lives with those of the Apostles and the early church, it is apparent that we have lost our fire -- our true love. Why have become so busy with our daily lives, that we don't devote ourselves to spreading the good news. These brave men and women faced criticism and death to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. Yet, we are too complacent or afraid or "shy" to even tell our co-workers or family member who aren't saved. We repent of being lukewarm Christians, Father. Give us the boldness of Holy Spirit to tell others about You. Show us who to speak to, and give us the words to say... words that bring life and salvation. Amen
