Season 2

Day 29: Genesis 48-50

Today on Meditating the Word, we finish the Book of Genesis. Jacob blesses Joseph's sons and his own sons, and prophesies the coming Messiah through the lineage of Judah; Jacob dies and is buried  in the land of Canaan; and Joseph dies and is put in a coffin in Egypt.
This is Day 29. Today we are reading Genesis Chapters 48-50.

Father God, What a magnificent history, through all of it's twists and turns. Your word is sure. Even when we take detours from your plan, Father, you are able to re-route us and get us back on track again. You make the weak strong, the lesser greater. Throughout the book of Genesis, we have seen prophecies of the coming Messiah, even in Jacob's blessing on Judah. We have seen you carefully preserve the lineage through which our savior would be born. Thank you, Father, for your unfailing love and mercy. Amen

Day 28: Genesis 46-47

Today on Meditating the Word, Jacob goes to Egypt with all of his relatives; Joseph presents his family and Pharoah; Jacob blesses Pharoah; The famine continues, and the Egyptians sell their cattle, their land and themselves to Pharoah in exchange for food; but the Israelites prosper even in famine.
This is Day 28. Today we are reading Genesis Chapters 46-47.

Father God, you have set your people apart for a purpose. We are to be the light of the world. Give us wisdom, Father, to steward the resources you have given us. As you put Joseph in a position of power and leadership, even now, Father, may godly men and women be elected to leadership positions in our government and to positions of authority who will rule wisely. Open our ears and our hearts so we can learn from scripture and know how to apply these truths to our daily lives. Thank you, Father. Amen

Day 27: Genesis 43-45

Today on Meditating the Word, Joseph's brothers return to Egypt; Joseph's silver cup is found in Benjamin's sack; and Joseph finally reveals his true identity to his brothers.
This is Day 27. Today we are reading Genesis Chapters 43-45.

Father God, your are the Waymaker. What the enemy means for evil, you turn into good. And from our sin and error, from our messes, you bring salvation in miraculous ways. You always provide more than enough in the good years to last us when the years of famine come. Help us, Father,  to be good stewards of your wealth, and not to squander the surplus, but to sow it and to save it as you direct us, so that we can bless others with the overflow. Thank you, Father. Amen

Day 26: Genesis 41-42

Today on Meditating the Word, Joseph interprets Pharoah's dreams and is placed in charge of all of Egypt; Joseph's brothers come to Egypt to buy food; the brothers don't recognize Joseph, but he recognizes them; Simeon is put in jail as a guarantee that the brothers will return to Egypt with Benjamin. 
This is Day 26. Today we are reading Genesis Chapters 41-42.

Father God, as we read about the dreams you gave to Pharoah about what was to come, I'm reminded that you have sent Holy Spirit to be with us and that he will show us things to come. Help us to listen, Father, and to heed the warnings that you have given us both in your word, and what Holy Spirit shows us. These things aren't revealed to frighten us, but to prepare us. And there is no better time to prepare for famine, for difficult times, than in times of plenty. Thank you for your faithfulness, Father. Amen

Day 25: Genesis 38-40

Today on Meditating the Word, Tamar disguises herself as a prostitute and becomes pregnant with her father-in-law, Judah's, child; Potiphar's Wife falsely accuses Joseph of attempted rape; and Joseph interprets dreams in prison.

Father God, we love your word! Thank you for having the account of Joseph's life preserved and written for us. It is such an encouragement, Father, to know that no matter what the circumstances, no matter where we find ourselves in life, you are there with your favor and blessing. Joseph revered you and remained in your presence, and you blessed him. Even when he was mistreated, sold into slavery, falsely accused and thrown into prison. You blessed him in every circumstance and made him prosper. Help us to remain in your presence, Father, and dedicate everything we do to you. Amen

Day 24: Genesis 35-37

Today on Meditating the Word God changes Jacob's name to Israel; Rebekah dies giving birth to Benjamin; we read the geneology of Esau; Joseph tells his family his dreams, and his brothers sell him as a slave.
This is Day 24. We are reading Genesis Chapters 35-37

Father God, we are amazed by your word. The things you had to arrange and sort out, the messes you had to fix so that your purpose could be fulfilled. But your word tells us that your plans can't be thwarted, and that your word won't return to you empty, but will be fulfilled where you send it. Your word was out, from the garden of Eden, that you would make a way. And nothing could stop it. Thank you for having your word penned for us, Father. Give us an ever greater understanding of it, and guide us in the path you have prepared for us to walk in. Thank you Father, Amen

Day 23: Genesis 32-34

Today on Meditating The Word, Jacob prepares to meet his brother Esau; he wrestles all night with God; the brothers reconcile; and Jacob's sons revenge the rape of their sister Dinah. This is Day 23. Today we are reading Genesis Chapters 32-34.

Father God, from the heights to the depths, we see humanity and our brokenness in your word. Reconciliation is sweet, but revenge is very bitter. How we needed a savior. Thank you for accepting us, even at our worst, and loving us in spite of everthing we do. Thank you for righting our wrongs and making us whole. Amen

Day 22: Genesis 30-31

Today on Meditating the Word, Leah and Rachel have a baby competition, giving their servants to Jacob as wives. Jacob agrees to work for Laban in exchange for flocks. Laban and his sons become jealous over his prosperity, so Jacob loads up his family and possessions and heads back to his home.
This is Day 22. Today we'll be reading Genesis Chapters 30-31.

Father God, people will betray us... sometimes even our own relatives. But you are always there, always faithful. If you are for us, who can be against us. When we are mistreated and taken advantage of, you set things right. We will be diligent, honest and faithful in the work of our hands, Father, because you are the creator of all things, and all things belong to you. Thank you for all the blessings and benefits that come from serving you. Amen

Day 21: Genesis 27-29

Today on Meditating the Word, Jacob steals his brother Esau's blessing, and runs for his life to Paddan Aram to his mother's family. Esau marries one of Ishmael's daughters out of spite. Jacob sees a stairway to heaven in a dream. Jacob works seven years to have Rachel as a wife, but Laban tricks him into marrying Leah instead. Jacob agrees to work another seven years for Rachel. 
 
This is Day 22. Today we'll be reading Genesis Chapters 27-29.

Father God, we are so very thankful that you love us in spite of our brokenness. When we take things into our own hands, when we make a mess of things, you heal us and make things right again. Thank you for for your mercy and your unfailing love. Thank you for being with us always, wherever we go. Amen

Day 20: Genesis 25-26

Today on Meditating The Word, we look at the history of the generations of Ishmael, Abraham's son from Hagar; and the history of the generations of Isaac, Abraham's son from his wife Sarah. Esau and Jacob are born to Isaac and Rebekah. Esau trades his birthright for a pot of stew. Like father, like son, Isaac passes his wife off as his sister. Isaac reaps a 100-fold harvest during a time of famine. And Esau marries two Hittite women. This is Day 20. Today we'll be reading Genesis Chapters 25-26

Father God, truly, nothing is impossible for you. Even in a time of famine, you prospered Isaac, and he reaped a 100 fold harvest on his seed. We say what your word says, and we speak your word over our lives, our families, our finances and our circumstances. We sow the seed of your Word into our lives, Father, and claim that 100 fold harvest. Thank you, Father. Amen
