Day 39: Exodus 28-29
Wednesday Feb 08, 2023
Wednesday Feb 08, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word, God gives Moses instructions for the priestly garments: the Ephod, the Breastpiece, and the other garments; as well as instructions for the consecration of Aaron and his sons as priests.
This is Day 39. Today we are reading Exodus Chapters 28-29.
----
Father God, We are so very grateful that we live under a new and better covenant. We know that all of the purifications and sacrifices and offerings were a temporary cover for sin, and they were a shadow of THE sacrifice to come. Thank you for Jesus, and for the sacrifice that was needed only once and for all time. We are covered in his righteousness, cleansed by his blood, made holy in him. Thank you that we can enter the holy of holies unafraid, because we have been adopted into your family. Amen

Day 38: Exodus 25-27
Tuesday Feb 07, 2023
Tuesday Feb 07, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word, God asks the Children of Israel to bring offerings of materials needed to build the tabernacle; Precise instructions are given for making the Ark, the Table, the Lampstand, the Tabernacle, the Alter of Burnt Offering, the Courtyard and the Oil for the Lampstand.
This is Day 38. Today we are reading Exodus Chapters 25-27.
----
Father God, the precise instructions that you gave Moses for building a tabernacle are amazing. Every detail described. There was to be no mistake or misunderstanding in creating your dwelling place. Yet, it was only a copy of the heavenly ideal. Your word is no less specific on how we are to live our earthly lives, according to a heavenly design. Help us, Father, to be as diligent as Moses was in duplicating your ideal in our daily lives, for we were created in your image and in your likeness. As we read your word throughout the year, may we be transformed by it into a clearer representation of Christ. Amen

Day 37: Exodus 22-24
Monday Feb 06, 2023
Monday Feb 06, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word, God provides laws on property protection and social responsibility, on justice and mercy; Sabbath laws are given for man, animals and even land; three annual festivals are announced; God talks about his Angel who will go before them to prepare the way and the covenant is confirmed as God appears to Moses, Aaron, Nadab and Abihu and seventy elders of Israel in a cloud of glory.
This is Day 37. Today we are reading Exodus Chapters 22-24.
----
Father God, So often, we look at your commandments as restrictions, when in reality, they are the path to freedom. If we study your laws, we can see that each one is written as a protection for us and all of humanity. We are grateful for your guidance, Father. And we are so very grateful for your grace, so that when we blow it, when we do the things we don't want to do, as the Apostle Paul said, your grace and forgiveness are there. We no longer have to offer a sacrifice for our sins, because you offered the ultimate sacrifice for us. Thank you, Father. Amen

Day 36: Exodus 19-21
Sunday Feb 05, 2023
Sunday Feb 05, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word, God speaks to Moses on Mount Sinai; God gives Moses the Ten Commandments as well as laws regarding idols and altars, treatment of servants and laws dealing with personal inuuries.
This is Day 36. Today we are reading Exodus Chapters 19-21.
----
Father God, we are so very grateful that we have been restored to right standing with you by the blood of Jesus. When we read how the children of Israel and the priests had to prepare themselves before they could approach you, we realize how blessed we are to be purified in Christ. We read the ten commandments, which Jesus later summarized into two: Love you and love our fellow man. And still, we struggle to keep them. We are so grateful for your mercy, your love and your grace. Thank you Father. Amen

Day 35: Exodus 16-18
Saturday Feb 04, 2023
Saturday Feb 04, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word, God feeds the Israelites with manna and quail; Water is provided from a rock; the Amelekites are Defeated; and Moses's father-in-law, Jethro, comes to visit
This is Day 35. Today we are reading Exodus Chapters 16-18.
----
Father God, help us to remain grateful for everything you have done for us and everything you provide for us on a daily basis. Help us to focus on what we have, instead of what we lack, because Father, we are truly so blessed. Let us always remember that you alone are our source. You are our provider. Keep us from the sin of self-sufficiency, Father. Thinking we can do everything on our own. We need you. Every day. And we need each other. Help us to not only to give to our spiritual community, but also to accept so that no one is overburdened and everyone is blessed. Thank you for the lessons in scripture, Father. Your word is still so very relevant to us today. Help us to apply it. Amen

Day 34: Exodus 13-15
Friday Feb 03, 2023
Friday Feb 03, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word, God requires all firstborn males to be consecrated to him; the parting of the Red Sea; the Egyptian army is drowned; Moses and Miriam sing praises to God; the bitter waters of Marah are made sweet; and Israel camps at Elim.
This is Day 34. Today we are reading Exodus Chapters 13-15.
----
Father God, surely, there is nothing you can't do. We are still thrilled and amazed at the many miracles you performed for the children of Israel. And we are sometimes tempted to just them for doubting you. But, we ourselves experience doubt. Just as they were redeemed from the bondage of Egypt, we have been redeemed from a life of sin and shame. You rescued us with the same strong arm and mighty right hand. Just as you led them with a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night, you lead us today in the way we should go. And just as the tree was thrown into the bitter waters of Marah and the waters became sweet, Jesus was hung on a tree to turn the bitterness of our lives into the sweetness of salvation. We don't deserve all you have done for us. We can't earn it. But we are so very grateful for the gift of salvation you have freely given. Thank you, Father. Amen

Day 33: Exodus 10-12
Thursday Feb 02, 2023
Thursday Feb 02, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word, The plagues continue with Locusts, Darkness and the death of the Firstborn; the Passover and Festival of Unleaveaned Bread are introduced; Pharoah finally lets the children of Israel go.
This is Day 33. Today we are reading Exodus 10-12.
----
Father God, thank you for your word and thank you for showing us your heart through the word. Just as the children of Israel were protected by the blood of the passover lamb, we are protected by the blood of THE LAMB, Jesus... saved from spiritual death and brought into eternal life through his sacrifice. Father, may we never forget or lose sight of the cost of that sacrifice, of the precious price paid to redeem us from our sins. Thank you, Father, for your unfailing love and mercy. Amen

Day 32: Exodus 7-9
Wednesday Feb 01, 2023
Wednesday Feb 01, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word, Aaron's staff becomes a snake; Pharoah hardens his heart and the plagues of Egypt begin with water turning to blood, frogs, gnats, flies, livestock, boils, and deadly hail.
This is Day 32. Today we are reading Exodus Chapters 7-9.
-----
Father God, There is no other God but you. Help us to not harden our hearts, Father. Help us to listen to and obey every word you speak to us. Sometimes it's easy to look at extreme circumstances, like the plagues of Egypt and wonder how Pharoah could have over and over again hardened his heart. But if we take a close look at our own lives, we see that we, also, stubbornly hold onto things that you have asked us to lay down. Help us to be obedient, Father, and to put your word above everything else in our lives. Amen

Day 31: Exodus 4-6
Tuesday Jan 31, 2023
Tuesday Jan 31, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word, God gives Moses miraculous signs so the Israelites will believe him; Moses and Aaron tell Pharoah to let God's people go; the Israelites are punished and made to get their own straw for bricks; the Israelites turn on Moses.
This is Day 31. Today we are reading Exodus Chapters 4-6.
-----
Father God, as we read about the bondage of the Children of Israel in Egypt, we are reminded that sometimes things become even more difficult and challenging before they change. Help us to keep our hearts pliable and moldable, and not to become hardened, as Pharoah's heart was hardened. You are our God, and we are your people. Thank you for redeeming us, Father, with your outstretched arm. Amen

Day 30: Exodus 1-3
Monday Jan 30, 2023
Monday Jan 30, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word, The Children of Israel are opppressed in Egypt; Moses is born and adopted by Pharoah's daughter; Moses kills and Egyptian and flees to Midian; and God speaks to Moses from a burning bush.
This is Day 30. Today we are reading Exodus Chapters 1-3.
----
Father God, Just as you heard the cries of the children of Israel, we know you hear us today. You are the same God today as you were yesterday and as you will be tomorrow. You are I AM who I AM. Help us, Father, to not act rashly. While Moses's heart was in the right place, wanting to save his brothers, his actions were wrong, and likely delayed the freeing of the children of Israel. But you always make a way. And while we sometimes wish we had a burning bush in the physical showing us the way to go, we know we have your holy fire, Holy Spirit within us every day. Thank you, Father. There could be no better gift. May we listen to and follow his direction today and every day. Amen
