Day 70: Deuteronomy 1-2

Today on Meditating the Word, Moses recounts the Desert Wanderings; The command to leave Horeb; the appointment of leaders; the 12 spies; the rebellion; wandering in the wilderness; and the defeat of Sihon.

Father God, thank you for your Word, and thank you for revealing your heart and character to us through it. Even though our Words are powerful, we see that we cannot curse another. The Children of Israel said that they and their children would die in the wilderness. And all the adults 20 years and older died, except for Caleb and Joshua. But all those under the age of 20 lived to inherit the promised land. Help us, Father, to guard our mouths. And to speak words of life and not death. And to bless others as you have blessed us. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

Day 69: Numers 35-36

Today on Meditating the Word, we finish the book of Numbers. Towns are established for the Levites as well as cities of refuge and the inheritance of Zelophehad's daughters is clarified.
This is Day 69. We will be reading Numbers 35-36----
Father God, you claimed the Levites as your own, and you took care of them. Because their work was to serve you, and they couldn't earn wages and purchase land, and houses and possessions as the other Israelites could. you made provision for them. You still take care of those who serve you today, Father. You are Jehovah Jireh, our provider. And you take pleasure in taking care of us and providing for our needs. Because you are our shepherd, we lack nothing. Thank you, Father. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Day 68: Numbers 33-34

Today on Meditating the Word, we read a recap of the Israel's wilderness travels and the boundaries of the Promised Land are given.

Father God, May we learn from the Children of Israel to trust you. To put all of our faith in you and you alone. No matter how small and insignificant and weak we think we are. We can't accomplish much in our own strength anyway. Because of their failure to trust in you, and because they compared themselves to others, they wandered for 40 years in the wilderness instead of entering the promised land. You had already promised them victory. Father, help us to know that your promises are true. They never fail. We put our faith in you and your strength. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Day 67: Numbers 31-32

Today on Meditating the Word, the Israelites take vengeance on the Midianites, the plunder is divided; land is allotted to the tribes of Gad and Reuben, and the half-tribe of Manassah on the east side of the Jordan.

Father God, thank you for your Word, and thank you for the lessons we can take from it. You have called us to be separate, Father, set apart for you. We saw it with the children of Israel. And again in the New Testament, we are warned to not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. Help us to know when we are crossing the line, Father, from ministering to non-believers to becoming overly familiar and placing ourselves at risk from evil influences. Help us to keep our hearts pure, Father, dedicated wholly to you, and following you completely. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray.   Amen.

Today on Meditating the Word, we learn about the Daily, Sabbath and Monthly Offerings, the Offerings for Passover and the Day of Atonement, and the Offerings for the Festivals; and we learn about Vows and Oaths. 
This is Day 66. We will be reading Numbers 28-30----
Father God, Even though we are no longer bound by the laws of the Old Testament which were fulfilled by Jesus, we recognize the lessons that we can apply to ourselves yet today. You took oaths and vows very seriously, because words are important. Help us to recognize the power of our words, Father, and to not speak rashly or carelessly. Help us to say what we mean and to mean what we say. We were created in your likeness and image, and our words have power. Help us to use our words properly to exercise our dominion over our lives and circumstances, and to live in your promises. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Day 65: Numbers 26-27

Today on Meditating the Word, a second census is taking of the Children of Israel; Zelophehad's Daughters are given their father's inheritance; and Joshua is chosen to succeed Moses. 
This is Day 65. We will be reading Numbers 26 & 27

Father God, You are just and your Word never fails. Just as you said, all those who refused to enter into the promised land, died in the wilderness. And yet, even in a patriarchal society, we see you show mercy to the daughters of Zelophehad, allowing them to claim their father's inheritance in his place. And then we see you honor Joshua, the one who had a different spirit, not a spirit of rebellion, but one of faith and trust in you and your promise. You exalted him above all of Israel and made him their leader in Moses' place. Father, may we have the boldness of Zelophehad's daughters and claim the inheritance you provided for us, and the spirit of Joshua believing in your Word no matter what our circumstances look like. In the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Today on Meditating the Word, we read about the destruction of Arad; the Bronze snake on the pole; the Journey to Moab; the defeat of Sihon and Og; and Balak, Balaam and the talking Donkey.

Father God, How I love your Word! Again, we see Jesus in the account of the serpent on the pole -- a symbol of Jesus on the cross. And we are reminded that as long as we keep our eyes on him, we will be saved. But when we look at our circumstances, that's when we run into trouble. And the account of Balaam, and how you used a donkey... how can I ever doubt, Father, that you can use me. If you can give a donkey words to speak, surely I can trust Holy Spirit to speak through me. Help me to keep my eyes on Jesus and speak only your Words, Father. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.----

Today on Meditating the Word, we learn about the duties and offerings of the Priests and the Levites; the water of the cleansing is established; Moses strikes the rock at Meribah; Edom denies Israel passage; and Aaron dies.

Father God, Thank you for showing us Jesus throughout the Old Testament. In the Rock at Meribah, we see him. Moses had already struck a rock that brought forth water. Your instructions were clear -- he was to speak to the Rock this time. Just as Jesus was struck once for all time and now we are to speak the word only. Father, your Word is truth and your promises are sure. Remind us when we forget, Father, that we don't have to struggle and labor to receive your promises, we only need to speak your Word. It is forever settled in heaven. Thank you, Father. In the name of Jesus, the name above all names we pray. Amen.

Father God, So often we try to blame others, or even you, for what is wrong with our lives instead of taking responsibility for our own actions and mistakes. Help us, Father, to recognize that our actions have consequences and we are often our worst enemies. Still, you are full of love and compassion for us. Help us to do your will Father. And as Aaron, give us the strength to stand between the living and the dead, and intercede for those who do not know you, Father. Give us the courage to stand in the gap for you. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Father God, thank you for your Word. We are so grateful for every word you had recorded for us. It is our manual for living. We pray that like Caleb, we have a different spirit from the world, and follow you fully, so that we can enter into your promises. Help us to be doers of your Word, Father. You are the Lord our God, from everlasting to everlasting. You satisfy us in the morning with your loving kindness. Your favor is upon us. You establish the works of our hands. Thank you, Father. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
