Day 110: Psalms 121, 123-125 and 128-130
Thursday Apr 20, 2023
Thursday Apr 20, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word, we read several of the Songs of Ascents, also called Pilgrim Songs. Jews traveling to Jerusalem for one of the three main annual festivals traditionally sang these songs on the “ascent” or the uphill road to the city. The Jewish priests also sang some of these Songs of Ascent as they walked up the steps to the temple in Jerusalem.
This is Day 110. Today we are reading Psalms 121, 123-125, and 128-130
----
Father God, you are so good to us. You hear us when we call to you. In Jesus, we have forgiveness, not just from our sins of the past, but even for any sin we may commit in the future. We are in awe of your unending mercy and your faithful loving kindness. Thank you, Father, for all of the blessings you have given us through Jesus our Savior. Amen.

Father God, when David was at his lowest, when his city had been burned, and his family taken, when his own men wanted to stone him, he strengthened himself in you. Help us to remember, Father, that you are always with us. You are our strength, our rock, our fortress, our deliverer. We take refuge in you and we praise you, Father, for everything you have done for us and for everything you will do for us. Amen.

Day 108: Psalms 17, 35, 54 and 63
Tuesday Apr 18, 2023
Tuesday Apr 18, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word, we read prayers and psalms by David; A contemplation by David, when the Ziphites came and said to Saul, “Isn’t David hiding himself among us?”; and A Psalm by David, when he was in the desert of Judah.
This is Day 108. Today we are reading Psalms Chapters 17, 35, 54 and 63
----
Father God, how I love the Psalms of David. Pure, raw and honest. He spoke to you as he would speak to a friend. Not holding anything back. Yet, even in his darkest times, he ended with praise. Thank you, that we are the apple of your eye. And you hide us in the shadow of your wings. You give us plenty -- so much that we store up wealth for our children. You take pleasure in our prosperity. We magnify you, Father, talk about your righteousness and we praise you all day long. You are our helper. You sustain our souls. We earnestly seek you because your love is better than life. Amen.

We trust in you, Father, to make things right. And we know that you are always faithful to your promises. Amen.

Day 105: Psalms 7, 27, 31, 34 and 52
Saturday Apr 15, 2023
Saturday Apr 15, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word, we read some of the Psalms of David, including when he pretended to be insane before Abimelech, who drove him away, and he departed; and a contemplation by David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, “David has come to Ahimelech’s house.”
This is Day 104. Today we are reading Psalms Chapters 7, 27, 31, 34 and 52
----
Father God, We can see why David was a man after your own heart. We take comfort in his Psalms, and we sing your praise with his Psalms. You are our light and salvation. We give you thanks forever for everything you have done for us. We have tasted of you, and have seen that you are good. We bless you and exalt you. And we hope in you alone and trust in your loving kindness forever. Thank you, Father Amen.

Day 104: 1st Samuel 21-24
Friday Apr 14, 2023
Friday Apr 14, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word, David flees to Nob, to Gath, to Adullam and to Mizpah; Saul kills the Priests of Nob; David saves Keilah, Saul pursues David; and David spares Saul's life.
This is Day 104. Today we are reading 1st Samuel 21-24----
Father God, that we could be as righteous as David! He had every reason, and the perfect opportunity to kill Saul who was trying to kill him. Which of us wouldn't have taken advantage of that opportunity? Yet, he had respect not only for Saul, his king and his father-in-law, but for your anointing on Saul and on his position as king. May we be as willing to show mercy and to let you direct our affairs instead of doing things in our strength and will. Amen.

Day 103: 1 Samuel 18-20, Psalms 11 and 59
Thursday Apr 13, 2023
Thursday Apr 13, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word, Saul is Increasingly Afraid of David; Saul Tries to Kill David; and David and Jonathan Form a Covenant; Psalms of David when Saul sent men to David's house to kill him.
This is Day 103. Today we are reading 1st Samuel 18-20 and Psalms 11 and 59----
Father God, there is such a stark contrast between Saul and David. Saul let pride enter in, and removed himself from your presence. But David sought your presence, and you called him a man after your own heart. Help us to be more like David and look to you as our strength, as our high tower. We will sing of your loving kindness in the morning. And we will sing praises to you. Thank you for your mercy, Father. Amen.

Day 102: 1st Samuel 15-17
Wednesday Apr 12, 2023
Wednesday Apr 12, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word, the Lord Rejects Saul as King, Samuel Anoints David, David Serves Saul, David and Goliath
This is Day 102. Today we are reading 1st Samuel 15-17
----
Father God, how we love the story of David a Goliath. While all of Israel was afraid of Goliath because of his size and his fierce words, David saw him for what he was, an uncircumcised Philistine without a covenant. He did not fear him, because he knew his place in your covenant, and he knew the battle belonged to you. May we face the enemy as unafraid as David, knowing that the battle is yours and it is in fact, already won by Jesus. All we have to do is stand in his victory. Thank you Father, Amen.

Day 101: 1st Samuel 13-14
Tuesday Apr 11, 2023
Tuesday Apr 11, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word, Samuel rebukes Saul, Israel is Without Weapons, Jonathan Attacks the Philistines, Israel Routs the Philistines, and Jonathan is Cursed for Eating Honey
This is Day 101. Today we are reading 1st Samuel 13-14----
Father God, thank you for your Word. Through it, we see your heart and your character. Saul didn't consider himself worthy. He saw himself as being from the smallest tribe in Israel, and from the least of the clans in the tribe of Benjamin. Yet, you chose him as king. But Saul was impatient and didn't wait on your timing, and forfeited the throne passing down through his generations. Help us to be patient, Father, and to not try to rush forward with our own plans and agenda, but to simply be still and trust in you. Amen.
