Father God, your Word says that if any man lacks wisdom, all we need to do is ask, and you will give it. Help us to seek wisdom over wealth and power. And above all, may we seek to live according to your Word. As wise as Solomon was, he still took foreign wives who eventually led him astray to worshp other gods. Keep us from putting anything before you, Father, but to trust in you alone. Amen

Today on Meditating the Word, we pray Psalm 119 - The longest chapter in the Bible. It's split into 22 stanzas -- one for each letter of the Hebrew alphabet, and each line within the stanza begins with the same letter of the alphabet. (Although you can't tell that from the English translation!)

Father God, we are so blessed. If we tried to count all of our blessings, we couldn't do it. We seek you with our whole heart, Father. And we store your words up in our heart. That's what we're doing as we read your word together. We meditate on your word and we fix our eyes on your ways, and turn our eyes from looking at worthless things. We choose the way of faithfulness. Amen

Father God, we claim the promises in these Psalms... that the sick are healed, that the poor and needy are lifted up, that the weary are made strong, that the barren woman is set in a home as a joyful mother of children, that we are blessed and increased, us and our children. You are our help and our shield, and you have established your covenant with us forever through Jesus, the cornerstone. We give you thanks and all the glory.  Amen

Father God, there is nothing hidden from you. You know the end from the beginning. You know our hearts and our deepest thoughts. Father, may we give willingly and with a thankful heart everything that you ask. All the gold and silver, everything in the earth belongs to you. We are merely stewards. Help us to not cling tightly out of fear or lack, but to allow your abundant blessings to flow through us to bless others and to benefit your kingdom. Thank you, Father. Amen

Father God, we see in these passages how important worship is to you, we see that it is a service, and in the past, it was performed by your priests, set apart for service through the bloodline of Levi. Everything was ordered. You are still a God of order. But now, the only sacrifice you require is a sacrifice of praise. And so we praise you, Father. And we thank you that we live under grace and not the law.  Amen

Father God, pride is such an ugly thing. When David asked that all of Israel be counted, it wasn't at your word or for your sake, but for his own glory. You let David choose his own punishment, and then you showed mercy and stopped the plague at his request. We thank you for your mercy, Father. We thank you for your favor which lasts a lifetime. We thank you that you have turned our mourning into dancing and clothed us with gladness. We give you all the praise.  Amen
