Day 182: Obadiah and Psalms 82-83

Today on Meditating the Word, we read the vision and prophecy of Obadiah concerning Edom, and we pray psalms of Asaph.

Father God, You are most high. We know that judgement day is coming, Father. Although you are merciful beyond our comprehension, there will come a day when we will get what we have chosen. You have set life and death before us and asked us to choose. We choose life, Father, so that we and our children may live. Thank You, Father, for giving us the ability to choose, and for your incredible love and mercy. Amen

Day 181: 2nd Chronicles 19-23

Today on Meditating the Word, Jehoshaphat appoints judges, and defeats Moab and Ammon, after his death, his son Jehoram reigns for 8 years, then his son Ahaziah is king for only 1 year. His mother Athaliah seizes the throne, but is replaced by Joash, the king's son.

Father God, You are faithful and true to Your Word. Even with all of the obstacles, the uprisings, the betrayals... You still made a way. You preserved the line of David, the lineage through which our Savior would come. Thank you, Father, for your faithfulness.  Amen

Today on Meditating the Word, Judah and Israel join to fight the Syrians, , Micaiah prophesies against Ahab, Ahab is defeated and killed in battle and his son Ahaziah reigns over Israel.

Father God, help us to be bold and unafraid, like Micaiah, and speak only Your Word. It is so easy to back down from the truth when we face opposition -- even when looking at our circumstances when they don't line up with Your Word. Put a guard over our mouths. Help us to speak only the truth. Your Word is truth.  Amen

Father God, you show mercy even to the unmerciful. Still, we turn from you and your ways and try to do things on our own, according to our own understanding. Help us, Father, to remain humble always, and follow Your Word, not relying on our own understanding.`  Amen

Today on Meditating the Word we read about Elijah's prophecy of drought, the widow of Zarephath, Elijah's raises the widow's son from death, Elijah and the prophets of Baal, the drought ends, Elijah flees from Jezebel, Elijah meets God at Mount Horeb, and Elisha becomes a disciple of Elijah.

Father God, Your provision is amazing. How can we ever doubt that you will provide for us? You sent ravens to feed Elijah, You made a small jar of meal and oil last through a drought, You take care of us always... in sometimes simple, and sometimes miraculous ways. Thank You, Father, for Your faithfulness.  Amen

Father God, Over and over again we see that when Your people sought you, when they followed Your Word, they prospered. But, when they allowed pride, or false gods, or trust in their wealth, or their own strength, or that of other nations, they failed. Father, help us to remain faithful to you. To trust in You and You alone all the days of our lives.  Amen

Father God, help us to always seek you first. When we live in Your Presence, we are blessed. But when we follow after our own wisdom, and the ways of the world, we remove ourselves from Your blessing. Keep us from the temptations that surround us and focused on You and Your kingdom. Amen

Father God, From Rehoboam, we learn the importance of seeking -- and heeding -- wise counsel, and not just looking for someone to agree with us. And from Jeroboam, we learn the importance of staying true to you. You have provided us with the best possible counselor -- Holy Spirit. Help us to always be attentive and follow his voice.  Amen
