Father God, in the prophecies of Jeremiah, we see how you are able to use the nations, even those in positions of power who do not know You, to bring about Your plan. Your Word has gone out, and it cannot be thwarted and will not return to You void. Yet, You were willing to even show them mercy, but they lifted themselves up in their pride, and magnified themselves against you. Father, heal us of our pride and arrogance of heart. If we boast in anything, let it be in You. Amen

Father God, thank You for Your Word, even when it's hard, Father, we know it's given for our instruction and our correction. So, we take these words of Jeremiah and apply them to our lives. How many times do we come to You Father, seeking an answer, but seeking the answer we want to hear, not necessarily the answer You give. Help us, Father, to listen and to obey and to follow Your ways and not our own. Help us to remain humble, Father, and not seek great things for ourselves, but to give You all the glory forever. Amen

Father God, thank You for Your Word and for the word of Your prophets. Before Cyrus even was, Jeremiah prophesied about him by name. Yet, Your people didn't listen to the prophets. The world hasn't changed. Your people are still mocked when they speak Your word. Like the Psalmists, we could ask "How long, Lord?" But we know that it is not Your will that anyone should perish, but that all people be reconciled to You. Help us to be as courageous as the prophets of old, and to speak Your Word boldly, Father, so that those who hear might be brought back into right relationship with You. Amen

Father God, help us to recognize, there is a consequence for our actions. There is a consequence for our disobedience. You have given us great and precious promises, and there is a condition: that we seek You and follow You and obey Your Word. But You are merciful, Father. And even when we fail, You have already made provision for us. All we have to do is repent and turn back to You. You have made an everlasting covenant with us, for our good, and for the good of our children after us. Thank You for Your everlasting love and mercy. Amen.

Rachel weeping for her children, when Herod slaughtered babies trying to kill Jesus; a woman encompassing a man, when the virgin Mary carried Jesus in her womb; the promise of sins being forgiven and remembered no more, because they were paid in full, washed away by the blood of Jesus. Your Word is written in our hearts. You are our God and we are Your people. Thank you, Father, for the gift of salvation. Amen

Father God, we know that the words of Jeremiah were spoken to the captives in Babylon, but we know these words are just as true for us, Father. So we claim these powerful promises. We know that Your thoughts toward us are thoughts of peace, and not of evil. We know that your purpose is to give us hope and a future. When we pray to You, You listen. When we call on You, You hear us. When we seek You with all of our heart, we find You. Thank You for Your Word, Father. Thank You for the great and precious promises in it. Amen

It is so easy to be led astray. Help us to remember, Father, to judge everything by Your Word, and to not fall for the smooth talkers who spread deception. Help us to remain faithful to You, Father. Amen
