Father God, thank You for Your Word. Thank You for the records kept about the life and history of John the Baptist and of Jesus and his disciples. Thank you for Mary and for her obedience and willingness to accept Your Word as truth and to be used as a vessel by You. Help us to be just as willing, Father. All Jesus had to say to his disciples was "Come and see". He offers us the same invitation today. All we have to do is follow Him. As we begin our journey through the New Testament, open our hearts and our minds and give us fresh manna, new revelation on Your Word, Father. We long to have a deeper understanding and closer relationship with You. Amen

Day 271: Nehemiah 8-10
Thursday Sep 28, 2023
Thursday Sep 28, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: Ezra reads the law, the Israelites confess their sins, and the Agreement of the People,
This is Day 271. Today we are reading Nehemiah 8-10
----
Father God, thank You for Your Word. We recognize that while it is good and right to confess our sins, and to repent and turn from them back to You, Your Word makes it clear that we are not to remain in mourning and sadness. The joy of the Lord -- Your joy, Father -- is our strength. So we turn from our sorrow, and we rest in Your sweet presence, letting the fruit of communion with You grow and flourish in us, Righteousness, Peace and Joy in the Holy Spirit. Thank You, Father, for Your amazing gifts of mercy and loving kindness. Amen

Day 270: Nehemiah 6-7
Wednesday Sep 27, 2023
Wednesday Sep 27, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: Further Opposition to the Rebuilding, Opposition to the Completed Wall, and The List of the Exiles Who Returned
This is Day 270. Today we are reading Nehemiah 6-7
----
Father God, in the account of Neheiah, we see how very important it is to seek Your council. So many times, their enemies sent messengers and tried to lead them astray. But Nehemiah relied on his communication with You, and didn't fall into their traps. Even when they sent false prophets from within the city, Nehemiah stood strong. He didn't get into fear. He didn't stray from his purpose. He kept council with You. Help us to have that same level of confidence in You alone, Father. Not falling for the tricks of the enemy which are so subtle, and so effective, he is able to deceive even the wisest of men. We will seek You, and we will listen for Your voice. And Your voice, we will obey. Amen

Day 269: Nehemiah 1-5
Tuesday Sep 26, 2023
Tuesday Sep 26, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: Nehemiah's Prayer, Artaxerxes Sends Nehemiah to Jerusalem, Nehemiah Inspects Jerusalem's Walls, Builders of the Wall, Opposition to the Building, and Nehemiah Helps the Poor.
This is Day 269. Today we are reading Nehemiah 1-5
----
Father God, what an amazing example Nehemiah is for us to follow. He encouraged the people, he organized them and set to work rebuilding Jerusalem and its wall. Against all odds in the natural, they prevailed and succeeded, because You were with them, just as You are with us today. You fought for them. You protected them. Nehemiah didn't take from the people as other governers had done before him. He demanded freedom and restoration, and he and his servants didn't stand back and watch while others did the work, but they joined in... shoulder to shoulder... doing whatever needed to be done. Father, let us also refuse privilege and do our part in building Your Kingdom here on earth. Amen

Day 268: Ezra 7-10
Monday Sep 25, 2023
Monday Sep 25, 2023
Today on Meditating the Word: Ezra Comes to Jerusalem, King Artaxerxes' Letter to Ezra, List of the Family Heads Returning with Ezra, the Return to Jerusalem, Ezra's Prayer about Intermarriage, the People's Confession of Sin and Those Guilty of Intermarriage.
This is Day 268. Today we are reading Ezra 7-10
----
Father God, I love that Ezra could have asked for the king's protection as they traveled, but he didn't. Instead, he and his men fasted and prayed and relied on You as their Protector. We thank You that we also have access to this same covenant of Protection. And again, we see the importance of separating ourselves, abd not becoming familiar with those who don't know and follow You. Not because we are better, or more worthy, but because You don't want us to be led astray. You know how easy it is for us to follow the crowd, so You ask us to choose our companions -- and especially our partners in marriage -- carefully. Help us to always remember to keep You first in every choice and every action. Thank You, Father. Amen

Saturday Sep 23, 2023
Saturday Sep 23, 2023

This is Day 266. Today we are reading Esther 1-5
----
Father God, thank You for the account of Esther. It's hard to imagine the great risk she took to save her uncle and her people. As Esther did, when we face a difficult decision, Father, let us bring it to You with prayer and fasting. Through Esther, we are reminded to be faithful, Father. We are reminded that each of us was created on purpose, and for a purpose. Who knows, but we were created for such a time as this. Give us the same courage as this brave woman, to follow You no matter where it leads -- even unto death. Amen
