Meditating The Word

Today on Meditating the Word, we learn about clean and unclean foods; a woman's purification after childbirth; and laws concerning leprosy, mold and mildew.

Father God, Thank you for your word. And thank you, Father, that Jesus fulfilled all of the law and the prophets. It is no wonder we needed a savior, someone who could fulfill the 613 laws given to Moses. The laws pointed to our inability to be holy on our own merits. Breaking just one of the commandments, makes us guilty of breaking all the law. We are so grateful to live not under the law, but under grace. Thank you, Father, for your grace. Amen

Father God, sometimes the accounts we read in your Word seem harsh -- as when Aaron's sons were consumed by fire. Yet, you had given the command that no incense was to be offered before you except that which you had instructed through Moses. Their's was an act of disobedience. Thank you for the New Covenant Father, a covenant of grace and not of the law. We know that the wages of sin is death, but we also know that Jesus paid that price for us. Help us to live in a manner worthy of his sacrifice, Father. We are forever grateful for your mercy and your unending love. Amen

Father God, thank you for revealing your heart to us. You always meet us where we are. Even in the sacrifices, you showed us that. You provided different levels of sacrifice -- options for the people -- depending on their circumstances. You didn't want anyone to be left out of your covenant. You made a way for even the poorest among the children of Israel to bring an offering to you. You haven't changed. You still meet us where we are. And in your love and mercy, you don't leave us there, but provide a way for us to rise above our circumstances. Thank you, Father. You are so good to us.  Amen

Father God, As we read about all the various offerings the children of Israel were required to make, and that they themselves had to kill the sacrifice, it drives home the point that I am the reason Jesus's blood was shed... just as surely as if I nailed his hands and feet to the cross myself. And just as their offerings had to be seasoned with salt, our sacrifice of praise and worship and service to you should be pure, enduring, and costly. You aren't looking for our leftovers, Father. We have been bought with a price, and owe everything -- our very lives -- to you. Thank you, Father. Amen

Father God, thank you for your word. I'm struck by the words over and over that Moses did as you commanded. May we be as faithful as your servant, Moses. The man you knew by name, and the man you revealed your name to. Thank you, Father, that we have the same privilege of speaking with you face-to-face, just as Moses did. May we never lose sight of what a gift that is. Amen

Father God, we read how you gave the Israelites favor with the Egyptians, but it isn't until we read about the materials given for the building of the tabernacle, that we realize just how much they were given. And what they received from the Egyptians, they freely gave for the building of your Tabernacle -- so much, that Moses had to tell them to stop giving! May we have that same heart, Father, to give until there is an overflow into building your Kingdom here on earth. And to trust that we cannot out give you, Father.  Amen

Father God, As we read about your instructions, once again we realize, you look on the heart. You didn't command all of the children of Israel to bring offerings, and you didn't command all of them to work on the tabernacle and its furnishings. You asked that whoever's heart was willing, bring a free will offering, and whoever's heart was willing, serve. You haven't changed, Father. You want us to want to serve you and to do so willingly, not out of obligation. Like Bezalel, fill us, Father, with Holy Spirit, with wisdom, understanding and knowledge, so that we can serve you better. Amen

Father God, how quickly we forget. We give credit to others for the blessings you have given us, or we take the credit for ourselves. When in all truth, it is you, and you alone, who has given us freedom. You are our source and our provider. You are our redeemer. We may not worship a golden calf, but still, we put things before you in our lives, Father. Thank you for your mercy, your love and your forgiveness. Remind us always, Father, to put you before everything else and help us to live lives that are pleasing to you.  Amen

Father God, We are so very grateful that we live under a new and better covenant. We know that all of the purifications and sacrifices and offerings were a temporary cover for sin, and they were a shadow of THE sacrifice to come. Thank you for Jesus, and for the sacrifice that was needed only once and for all time. We are covered in his righteousness, cleansed by his blood, made holy in him. Thank you that we can enter the holy of holies unafraid, because we have been adopted into your family. Amen

Father God, the precise instructions that you gave Moses for building a tabernacle are amazing. Every detail described. There was to be no mistake or misunderstanding in creating your dwelling place. Yet, it was only a copy of the heavenly ideal. Your word is no less specific on how we are to live our earthly lives, according to a heavenly design. Help us, Father, to be as diligent as Moses was in duplicating your ideal in our daily lives, for we were created in your image and in your likeness. As we read your word throughout the year, may we be transformed by it into a clearer representation of Christ.  Amen
