Father God, we thank you for your word, and for the examples of steadfast faith of many of the kings of Judah. May we also fear you, and study your word to show ourselves approved and to walk in humble obedience to you.  Amen

Father God, Over and over again we see that when Your people sought you, when they followed Your Word, they prospered. But, when they allowed pride, or false gods, or trust in their wealth, or their own strength, or that of other nations, they failed. Father, help us to remain faithful to you. To trust in You and You alone all the days of our lives.  Amen

Father God, help us to always seek you first. When we live in Your Presence, we are blessed. But when we follow after our own wisdom, and the ways of the world, we remove ourselves from Your blessing. Keep us from the temptations that surround us and focused on You and Your kingdom. Amen

And from Jeroboam, we learn the importance of staying true to you. You have provided us with the best possible counselor -- Holy Spirit. Help us to always be attentive and follow his voice.  Amen

Father God, for all of his wisdom, Solomon still made a terrible mistake. He took foreign wives, and followed after their gods. It's hard to understand. Even Molech, the god the children were sacrificed to. We realize through Solomon, there are different kinds of wisdom. There is earthly wisdom, and there is godly wisdom. Help us to follow after Your truth and Your wisdom, Father, and to not go astray. May our last days bring you even more glory than our present. Amen

Father God, such a lesson in matters of the heart, and in our motives. Working for the sake of working, or to build and hoard wealth, is meaningless. We can't take anything that we earn with us when we leave this earth. And so many of us spend our days and the years of our lives toiling for nothing. You gave us work and a purpose. And that work and purpose should fill us with joy. Yes, there should also be a reward for the work that we do here on earth, but far more important, is the treasure we store up for ourselves in heaven. Help us to keep our focus, Father, on the things that truly matter. Amen

Father God, the proverbs speak a lot about humility. It's easy to look at our accomplishments and build ourselves up. It's considered good and healthy to praise ourselves, but that's not what Your Word says. It says we aren't to think of ourselves more highly than we should, that pride goes before a fall, and that we should let others build us up rather than ourselves. Help us to practice the same humility that Jesus had. Recognizing who we are in Christ, but knowing that who we are is because of who we are in, not because of anything that we've done. Amen

Father God, So many simple lessons of wisdom are in the Book of Proverbs. Many of them seem common sense, but common sense often seems to be rare. My key take away from today's scriptures are to not be lazy. Your word tells us that the man who doesn't work doesn't eat. Also, to practice moderation. So often we indulge ourselves when we should be content with what satisfies and stop. And again, we see how important our words are. They can put out a fire, or make it rage out of control. Help us to be disciplined, Father, when it comes to work, enjoying good things, and in the words we speak. Amen
