Episode 402: Humility
Today's Prayer Meditation is on Humility
I strive always to be completely humble and gentle. I am patient, bearing with others in love. I don't do things out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility, I value others above myself.
I know that with pride comes disgrace, but wisdom comes with humility. I humble myself before you, Father, and you lift me up.
I live in harmony with others. I am not proud, but I am quite content to associate with people who do not hold a high position. I'm not conceited, nor do I consider myself higher than others.
Rather than attempting to be beautiful by the world's standards by adorning myself outwardly, I focus on my inner self and develop a gentle and quiet spirit. I know that that is of far greater worth in your sight.
As one of your chosen ones, holy and dearly loved by you, Father, I clothe myself with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
I know that pride brings a person low, but the lowly in spirit gain honor. Humility is the fear and reverence of you, Father. And its wages are riches and honor and life. I humble myself, therefore, under your mighty hand, that you may lift me up in due time. You take delight in me, and you crown the humble with victory.
I humble myself and pray, I seek your face and have turned from the ways of wickeness, and you hear me, Father. You have forgiven my sins. You have healed me.
I take the yoke of Jesus upon me, and learn from him. He is gentle and humble in heart. In him, I find rest for my soul. His yoke is easy and his burden is light.
I show wisdom and understanding by living a good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. Pride comes before a downfall, but humility comes before honor. So I make myself the very last, and the servant of all.
I am sympathetic. I love others. I am compassionate and humble.
Father, you choose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before you.
You have shown me what is good. And you ask me to act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with you. You are good and upright. You instruct me in your ways. When I humble myself before you, you guide me in what is right and you teach me your way.
I am called to be free, but I do not use that freedom to indulge the flesh. Rather, I serve others humbly in love. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
You must become greater; I must become less. Not to me, Father, but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness.
So be it.
Until next time, be blessed and be a blessing.
