Episode 276: Proverbs 27
Today's Prayer Meditation is on Proverbs 27
I do not brag about the plans I have for tomorrow, because I don't have a clue what tomorrow may bring to me. I do not praise myself for my accomplishments. It is far better to have someone else honor me for what I have done.
I do not allow myself to be provoked by a fool, that would be a heavy burden to carry. It would be easier to carry a heavy boulder or a ton of sand. The rage and anger of others can be overwhelming, but it is nothing compared to jealousy’s fire.
I would rather be corrected openly if it comes from love. I know that I can trust a friend who wounds me with his honesty. But the flattery of an enemy is insincere.
When my soul is full, I turn down even the sweetest honey. But when my soul is starving, every bitter thing becomes sweet.
My sweet friendships refresh my soul and awaken my heart with joy. A good friend is like an anointing oil that yields the fragrant incense of God’s presence. So I never give up on a friend or abandon a friend of the family. If disaster should strike, it is better to have a friend nearby to run to, than a relative far away.
I walk in your wisdom, Father. My one desire is to bring joy to your heart. The way I live is proof that I have listened to your Word and applied it to my life.
I discern danger that lies ahead and prepare myself. I am not naïve, never looking ahead and suffering the consequences of not being prepared.
I do not cosign or guarantee the loan of another. If they default, my property will be seized in payment.
I value peace and quiet, and I am respectful of my neighbors. I know that even a blessing, if spoken loudly in the early morning will be taken as a curse. And while I love to sing praises to you in the morning, Father, I do not sing at the top of my lungs in the early morning, or my neighbors may curse me for doing it!
I do not nag. I know that nagging is like an endless drip, drip, drip, from a leaky faucet. It doesn't result in anything good.
As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. I seek out those who will sharpen my character as friends, rather than someone who is content to let me retain my flaws.
I tend to my business like an orchard, and I have fruit to eat. I serve your interests, Father, and I receive your sweet honor and favor.
Every heart is different. Just as there are no two fingerprints that are alike. And as the water reflects the face, so my life reflects my heart.
Death and destruction are never filled, and the earthly desires of men’s hearts are insatiable. But Father, you have promised to first fill my heart with pure and righteous desires, and then to satisfy them.
Just as fire tests the purity of silver and gold, my character is tested by fame. If I am to receive fame for anything, Father, let it be for living a life of love and service to you.
I pay close attention to the faces of my family and friends, and hold close to my heart the condition of those I care for.
My strength, power, and riches will one day fade away; not even nations endure forever.
I take care of my responsibilities and I'm diligent in my business, and I always have more than enough--an abundance of food, clothing, and plenty for my household.
So be it.
Until next time, be blessed and be a blessing.
