Episode 274: Proverbs 25
Today's Prayer Meditation is on Proverbs 25
Father, you have hidden the revelation of your Word for me to find in the hiding place of your glory. I thoroughly search out the deeper meaning of all that you have to say.
My heart is full of understanding, like the heavens are high and the ocean is deep. Like impurities burned away from silver reveal a sterling vessel, your correction removes the dross from my life letting your righteousness shine through.
I do not boast or promote myself. It's good to be honored, but I do not seek words of praise. I know that it is better to be promoted by others and better still to be promoted by you.
I am not hasty to file a lawsuit. In doing so, I may start something I wish I hadn't and be humiliated if I lose my case.
I do not betray the confidence of others, but keep their secrets safe and leave it up to them to reveal to another as they choose.
I encourage others at every opportunity. Positive words spoken at just the right time are as appealing as apples gilded in gold surrounded with silver.
I humbly receive wise correction, and it adorns my life with beauty making me a better person.
A reliable, trustworthy message refreshes the heart. When I speak encouraging words in the right season, they are like a gentle snowfall at harvest time.
But someone who boasts is like clouds that carry no water and a wind that brings no refreshing rain. So, I do not boast of a gift I do not own -- or even of gifts that I do own. For everything comes from you, Father, and everything belongs to you. So what is there for me to boast about?
Father, give me patience and kindness when trying to persuade others. When I follow your guidance, I watch them change their minds right in front of me. The gentle wisdom you give me quells even the strongest resistance.
When I discover something sweet, I don’t overindulge and eat more than I need,
for excess in anything can make me sick of even a good thing. It's good to eat sweet things, but I don't get carried away and overdo it.
I don’t wear out my welcome by staying too long at the home of friends or relatives. They may get fed up with always having me there and wish I hadn’t come.
I do not lie about or slander people. That would be as bad as hitting them with a club or wounding them with an arrow or stabbing them with a sword.
I do not rely on unreliable people when I really need help. It would be like biting down on an abscessed tooth or walking with a sprained ankle.
When someone is suffering in the deepest grief and heartache, I do not try to cheer them up with a song of joy. That would be like stripping them of their garment on a cold day, or like rubbing salt in their wounds. Sometimes the best comfort I can offer is to sit silently with them and just listen. I know Holy Spirit will guide me if there are any words I can speak to help ease their pain.
If my enemy is hungry, I buy him lunch and win him over with my kindness. My surprising generosity may awaken his conscience and I know you will reward me with favor, Father.
I hold my tongue and do not say things I shouldn't. As the north wind brings a storm, so careless words will bring a storm to any relationship. It would be better to live alone in a rundown shack, than to share a castle with someone who is quarrelsome.
I do not live without restraint, but control my temper. Strife leaves an open door for the enemy to attack.
Good news revives the spirit like a drink of cool water refreshes a weary, thirsty soul.
Father, I will never give in and compromise with wickedness. That would be like contaminating a stream with sewage, or polluting a fountain.
I follow in your paths of righteousness, and drink from your fountain of living water. There is nothing else I would rather do than serve you.
So be it.
Until next time, be blessed and be a blessing.
