Episode 112: Psalm 50
Today's meditation is on Psalm 50
The mighty God, the Lord, has summoned me. He shouts out over the earth in every brilliant sunrise and every beautiful sunset, saying "Listen to me!"
God’s glory-light shines out of Zion-realm with the radiance of perfect beauty. With the rumble of thunder he approaches; he will not be silent. He is surrounded by devastating fire, and preceding him is the dazzling blaze of his glory. He summons his court with heaven and earth as his jury. He gathers me with his devoted lovers, the godly ones whose hearts are one with his, those who have entered into his holy covenant.
But it isn’t sacrificial animals that he wants from me. For all the animals of field and forest are his! The cattle on a thousand hills! He knows every mountain bird by name and the scampering field mice are his friends. If he were hungry, he would not mention it to me—for all the world is his and everything in it, all creation and its bounty. My God doesn't feast on venison. What he wants is for me to spread a banquet of praise before him, and serve High God a feast of kept promises. He wants me to trust him in my times of trouble, so he can rescue me and I can give him glory.
I recite his laws and claim his promises. I accept his discipline and do not disregard his laws. I help those in need. I guard the words of my mouth and do not slander my brothers and sisters.
The life that pleases God is a life lived in the gratitude of grace. My praise is a worthy sacrifice; this is what really honors God, this is what he desires. I set my foot on the Way, and he shows me his salvation. I choose to always walk with him in what is right, and more of his salvation unfolds for me.
Until next time, be blessed and be a blessing.
